Student Volunteer | Singapore Polytechnic, School of Architecture and Built Environment (ABE) | Service - Learning Project | 12nd - 13rd September 2019
I volunteered as a helper for a service-learning project organised by 6 students from the school of Architecture and Built Environment (ABE) in Singapore Polytechnic as part of their assignment.
It was a 2-day event with 10 other volunteers at Ci Yuan Hawker Centre @ Hougang to raise awareness about tray return culture in Singapore.
During the event, I mended one of the game booths, interacted with mostly children and taught them the importance of cleaning up after ourselves after eating through a puzzle game.

It was a 1-day event with 20 other volunteers at Westgate @ Jurong East to raise awareness about plastic waste and what can people do to save the earth in Singapore.
During the event, I mended one of their booths and interacted with the public (adults and young children) where I explained the importance of reducing plastic waste through games and told them some effective ways of how they could recycle it.
Key Takeaways
My public speaking skills were honed as I interacted with people outside of the preschool industry. I was equipped with knowledge on plastic waste in Singapore where I find it to be beneficial when planning future lessons for children.
Student Volunteer | Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HMS) | Service - Learning Project | 30th June 2019
I volunteered as a helper for a service-learning project organised by 6 students from the school of Humanities and Social Sciences (HMS) in Ngee Ann Polytechnic as part of their assignment.
It was a 1-day event with 50 other volunteers at a foreign worker's dormitory @ Central Staff Apartment to appreciate the presence and the work they have done for Singapore.
During the event, I interacted with a group of foreign workers through bonding games and initiated a conversation with a foreign worker. It was a rather meaningful conversation as he shared that he likes working in Singapore and would like to continue to work here.

Key Takeaways
I learnt to be more appreciative of what I have. This taught me to be contented with the things I have. This experience touched my heart to want to help more people to have a better life.

Student Volunteer | Yuhua Secondary School | Overseas Humanities Integrated Trip: Siem Reap, Cambodia | 5th November - 9th November 2016
When I was in Secondary 3, I volunteered for a Humanities Integrated Overseas Trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia organised by teachers from Yuhua Secondary School.
It was a 5-days 4-nights trip where 20 other volunteers and 5 teachers went to an Orphanage and a Primary school to teach basic hygiene to the children.
Before the trip, all the volunteers came together and brainstormed possible ideas on how we could teach basic hygiene to the children there despite the language barrier we had. During the event, I was in charge of teaching children on how to make their own piggy banks using plastic bottles.

Key Takeaways
My adaptability skills were honed as lessons planned beforehand did not go accordingly to what we wanted and we had to think of something new on the spot. Teamwork skills were also employed as I worked together with unfamiliar people, giving me more exposure to my preferred working style.
